Possible Evidence of 1.8 Civilizations

I explored a new part of the map today, an area the was not previously generated, and I found two of these things.

Could be NPCs...

not I... but it's my understanding that there are no NPCs until 1.9

The single player gives you the option to generate villages and stuff though. Does that just mean no actual dudes walking around yet?

To clarify for everyone, that is in fact the makeshift tree house I built when I wandered into new territory trying to find the neutral entities to slay them off so more could spawn. I found over 100 cows and 100 pigs there and it took me several in-game days to kill them all so I had to build a little tree house to sleep in.

Speaking of that tree house, did you know creepers could climb ladders? I didn't...
